The North Coast Athletic Conference hasn’t started league play yet, but the nonconference results already show who the contenders are. All nine teams open the conference schedule on Oct. 3, and each plays eight league games over four weeks. Here’s where things stand.
The early leaders
Wabash has the best record in the conference at 8-1-1. The Little Giants won their first six games and bounced back from a loss to Muskingum by going 2-0-1, including a 3-0 win at Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday.
DePauw (6-1) has won four straight, including a 1-0 win at Washington University in St. Louis. Its only loss came against Calvin.
Kenyon (5-2) has been dominant on its good days, with a 6-0 win at Anderson and a 2-0 win over Pomona-Pitzer. Denison (4-1-2) is tough to score against: five of its seven opponents have been held to one goal or none.
Wooster (4-3) has scored 17 goals, the second-most in the league. Wittenberg (3-1-3) and John Carroll (3-3-2) have played a lot of close games, and Oberlin and Ohio Wesleyan (both 1-4-1) will try to reset once conference play starts.

Five matchups to circle
- DePauw at Kenyon (Oct. 3): Two of the top three teams meet on opening day in Gambier.
- Kenyon at Wabash (Oct. 10): Kenyon’s attack against a Wabash team that has lost only once all season.
- DePauw at Denison (Oct. 14): DePauw’s four-game winning streak runs into Denison’s defense.
- Wabash at DePauw (Oct. 21): The Monon Bell rivalry comes to the soccer field, possibly with first place at stake.
- Denison at Wabash (Oct. 28): A late-season game in Crawfordsville that could decide tournament seeding.
Before league play: Denison hosts Carnegie Mellon on Saturday, Sept. 26, one of the toughest nonconference games left on any NCAC schedule.
