The NESCAC is one of the strongest conferences in Division III soccer, and three weeks into the season the race is already crowded. Five teams have at least seven conference points, and one team still hasn’t given up a goal. Here’s where things stand.
The early leaders
Middlebury has been the stingiest team in the league. The Panthers are 4-0-1 and haven’t allowed a goal in five games, including conference wins over Connecticut College (3-0) and at Amherst (1-0).
Bowdoin (4-0-2) is also unbeaten. The Polar Bears had a big weekend at home, beating Wesleyan and Williams 1-0 on back-to-back days.
Williams leads the conference in games played and points. The Ephs are 3-1-1 in league play after a 4-1 win over Hamilton, a home win over Bates and a road win at Trinity. Tufts (4-1-1) and Conn College (4-1-1) are right behind them. Conn picked up a road win at Colby on Sunday.

Five matchups to circle
- Middlebury at Bowdoin (Sept. 26): The league’s last two unbeaten teams meet in Brunswick, and Middlebury’s shutout streak is on the line.
- Middlebury at Tufts (Oct. 10): Medford is a tough place to play, and this is Middlebury’s hardest road test of the season.
- Tufts at Williams (Oct. 24): Two teams near the top of the table meet with the regular season almost over.
- Williams at Middlebury (Oct. 27): A final-day game that could decide the regular-season title.
- Bowdoin at Tufts (Oct. 27): Another final-day game with seeding at stake, played under the lights in Medford.
