Twelve teams, three of them brand new, eighteen conference matches each, and nine straight weekends to sort it out. Here is the complete Big West volleyball schedule, nonconference included.
Times are Pacific. Conference matches are in bold. The Site column is where the match is actually played, which during nonconference weekends is often a third school’s gym. TBA means the start time is not set yet.
How the league works in 2026
This is a new conference. California Baptist, Sacramento State and Utah Valley became full members on July 1, and UC Davis and Hawai’i left for the Mountain West. The league is back to twelve, with a footprint that now reaches Sacramento and Orem instead of Honolulu.
Each team plays eighteen conference matches, 108 in all, from September 24 through November 21. It is not a clean double round robin. Every team gets a home-and-home with seven opponents and a single meeting with the other four, and everybody plays exactly twice a week for nine straight weeks.
The postseason is a six-team single elimination bracket. The top two seeds get byes into the semifinals, seeding comes off the conference standings, and the tournament is played at a campus site picked in advance. The winner takes the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Cal Poly is the defending champion.

One more thing worth knowing before you plan a season around this: UC San Diego and UC Santa Barbara have both announced moves to the West Coast Conference. This alignment is not going to last long.

Big West Championship
The Big West Championship follows the November 21 finale. Six teams qualify, seeded off the conference standings, in a single elimination bracket where the top two seeds skip the quarterfinals. The event is played at a campus site chosen in advance and carried on ESPN+, and the winner takes the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Cal Poly is the defending champion. Dates and the host site will be confirmed later.
Matches to circle in 2026
- UCLA at Long Beach State, August 28, and Long Beach State at UCLA, August 29. A ranked-adjacent home-and-home in 24 hours, the opener on ESPN+ at the Walter Pyramid.
- Cal Poly at Texas A&M, August 29. The Mustangs open on the road against the defending national champions in College Station.
- CSUN at Colorado, August 28. The toughest single draw of anybody’s opening weekend.
- Cal Poly at UC Davis, September 5. The first meeting since the Aggies left the league, and now it is just another Saturday nonconference match.
- UC San Diego at Hawai’i, September 6. Same story, in Honolulu, against the program that won the first two Big West tournament titles.
- Stanford at Cal Poly, September 20. Mott Athletics Center gets a national program on a Sunday afternoon.
- UC Riverside at Utah Valley, September 24. The first conference match of the new alignment, and Utah Valley’s first as a member.
- Cal Poly at UC Santa Barbara, October 22, and UC Santa Barbara at Cal Poly, October 24. The Blue-Green rivalry twice in three days.
- Cal State Fullerton at Long Beach State, October 23, and Long Beach State at Cal State Fullerton, October 24. Ten miles apart, back to back nights, both on ESPN+.
- UC Irvine at Long Beach State, November 21. The regular season ends where it started, at the Pyramid.
Big West volleyball 2026 FAQ
When does Big West conference play start? September 24, with two matches. The regular season ends November 21.
How many conference matches does each team play? Eighteen, which is 108 across the league. It is not a full double round robin. Each team gets a home-and-home with seven opponents and a single match against the other four.
Who is new to the Big West in 2026? California Baptist, Sacramento State and Utah Valley joined as full members on July 1. UC Davis and Hawai’i left for the Mountain West, so the league stays at twelve.
Is there a Big West volleyball tournament? Yes. Six teams qualify, seeded by conference record, in a single elimination bracket with byes for the top two seeds, at a campus site. The winner receives the conference’s automatic NCAA bid. Cal Poly won it last year.
