Times are Eastern. Conference games are in bold. The composite lists no broadcast information, so the Site column is where the game is actually played, which in this league is often not the home team’s field.

How BIG EAST field hockey works in 2026

Seven teams play BIG EAST field hockey: Georgetown, Liberty, Old Dominion, Providence, Temple, UConn and Villanova. Four of those are full BIG EAST members. Liberty, Old Dominion and Temple are here as associates, because their own leagues do not sponsor the sport.

It was eight last year. Quinnipiac, a BIG EAST field hockey member since 2016, went back to the Northeast Conference as an associate for 2026, which took the conference schedule from seven games to six and turned it into a clean round robin: everyone plays everyone once, 21 games in all.

They are all on Fridays. Three conference games a week, seven straight Fridays from September 18 to October 30, with Sundays left to nonconference. If you follow this league, Friday afternoon is the whole season.

Liberty is the preseason pick, with six of the seven first-place votes and 36 points in the coaches’ poll. UConn was second with 31 and the other first-place vote, then Old Dominion (23), Temple (20), Villanova (18), Providence (13) and Georgetown (6). Villanova graduate student Ava Borkowski was named preseason Offensive Player of the Year and Providence senior Bo Martina preseason Midfielder of the Year; Liberty swept the other two, Dara Semmartin taking Defensive Player of the Year.

The Lady Flames earned it. They went 7-0 in the league last year, hosted the championship, and beat UConn 2-1 in overtime for the title, their third since 2021. UConn still owns the tournament’s history with 21 championships, and the Huskies have now lost two of the last five finals to a program that joined the league in 2016.

BIG EAST Championship

Temple hosts, at Howarth Field in North Philadelphia, November 6 to 8. Semifinals Friday, final Sunday, four teams, single elimination, and the winner takes the automatic NCAA bid. It is the third time Howarth has hosted the event, after 2023 and 2016.

Four of seven qualify, which means three teams finish the round robin on October 30 and are done. In a league this small, one Friday in October can end a season.

Liberty is the defending champion and hosted last year in Lynchburg. UConn has won it 21 times.

NCAA Tournament

First and second rounds are November 13 and 15 at campus sites. The final four and the national championship are at Louisville’s Trager Stadium on November 20 and 22.

The BIG EAST gets one automatic bid and, in most years, hopes for a second at large. Liberty has reached the NCAA field in four of the last five seasons, and took a 17-2 record into it last November.

Games to circle in 2026

  • Liberty at UConn, September 25. One versus two in the preseason poll, in Storrs, in week two of the round robin. These teams met twice last year: Liberty won 1-0 in the regular season and 2-1 in overtime for the championship.
  • Liberty at Villanova, October 30. The favorite closes on the road against the team it beat 3-1 in last year’s semifinal, in a game Ava Borkowski tied up in the fourth quarter before Liberty pulled away.
  • North Carolina at Liberty, October 11, and Duke at Liberty, October 25. Two ACC programs come to Lynchburg in a fortnight. Add Virginia on September 11 and Liberty has hosted three of them before Halloween.
  • UConn at Old Dominion, October 23. Second and third in the preseason poll, on the second to last Friday, with seeding on the line.
  • Old Dominion at Ohio State, August 28. The Monarchs open at a Big Ten program that will be in its own conference race by October.
  • Temple at Maryland, August 30. Temple opens with a four-game road swing and this is the hardest of them.
  • Villanova at UConn, September 18. The first conference game of the season, 3:00 on a Friday in Storrs.
  • Temple at Penn, November 1. The only November regular season game in the league, five days before Temple hosts the championship on its own field.
