Indiana has the deepest backfield among Big Ten running backs

Richard and Beebe give Indiana 1,460 yards on 247 carries, a 5.9 average, from just two players. Richard averages 82.8 yards a game over nine games. On October 3 he ran for 204 yards and a touchdown in a 47-15 win over Rutgers, according to TSN. Beebe has 715 yards and four touchdowns. See Indiana’s full school page for the roster.

Antwan Raymond leads in yards per game

Raymond has 733 yards in eight games, or 91.6 a game, the best mark among the ten backs on the leaderboard. He also has 160 receiving yards, so he is producing in both phases. Teammate Clay Thevenin adds 435 yards, which puts Rutgers on the list of schools with two backs in the top 15. Check the Rutgers page for more.

Wayne Knight is the touchdown leader

Knight has 680 yards on only 110 carries, a 6.2 average, and 12 touchdowns in eight games. The next-closest runner among the top 15 is Purdue’s Fame Ijeboi with nine. UCLA also has Anthony Woods at 495 yards on 75 carries, a 6.6 average that ties for the best yards per carry in the top 15. Read more on the UCLA page.

The next five Big Ten running backs

Just outside the top 10, the race is crowded. UCLA’s Anthony Woods is 11th with 495 yards. Nebraska’s Jamal Rule has 463 yards on 73 carries, a 6.3 average, in seven games. Oregon’s Jordon Davison has 439 yards and seven touchdowns, and his teammate Dierre Hill Jr. has 399 yards plus 209 receiving yards, the most receiving yards of the 15 leading rushers. Rutgers’ Clay Thevenin has 435 yards and five touchdowns. One good November Saturday could reshuffle this part of the list, so these Big Ten running backs are worth tracking week to week. Their numbers come from the same RallyFuel stats feed as the leaderboard above.

Volume or efficiency?

Ijeboi has the most carries of the top 15 Big Ten running backs at 141 and averages 4.2 yards on them, but his nine touchdowns show how much Purdue leans on him near the goal line. At the other end, Aidan Laughery of Illinois and Kamari Moulton of Iowa both average 6.3 yards a carry on fewer than 90 attempts. Ohio State’s Bo Jackson sits in the middle at 5.0 a carry on 128 attempts.

The 2026 race for the title among Big Ten running backs is far from settled. For the other side of the ball, read our Big Ten quarterback rankings, compare with the SEC running backs, and plan around every remaining game in the Big Ten football schedule.
