Three Unbeaten Teams: Miami, Utah and UCLA

Only three teams in the Top 25 are still without a loss: Miami, Utah and UCLA, all 8-0. The Hurricanes have held No. 1 and are the only one of the three that did not move. The Utes climbed three places to No. 3, and the Bruins went up two to No. 5. We keep track of the teams that remain perfect in our guide to undefeated college football teams.

Ohio State and Indiana Slide

The largest move of the week is Ohio State. The Buckeyes were No. 2 in the previous poll and are now No. 11 at 6-2, a nine-spot fall. Indiana (8-1) also dropped, from fourth to sixth. Both are Big Ten teams. Notre Dame (7-1) moved up one place to No. 4, BYU (7-1) rose from eighth to seventh, and Kentucky (7-1) climbed from ninth to eighth.

Alabama (6-2) is ninth, up one place, and Texas (6-2) is tenth, also up one. The Georgia Bulldogs (7-1) moved from third to second.

Who Entered and Who Fell

Four teams joined the poll this week: USC at No. 18 (7-2), Iowa at No. 21 (6-2), New Mexico at No. 22 (7-1) and South Carolina at No. 23 (5-3). Missouri (6-2) climbed four spots to No. 19, and Houston (6-2) moved up one to No. 17. Florida (5-3) took the steepest fall among teams that stayed ranked, dropping from No. 17 to No. 25. Arizona (6-2) slipped two places to No. 24.

Conference Count: SEC Holds 10 of 25

The SEC has more ranked teams than any other league, with 10: Georgia, Kentucky, Alabama, Texas, Ole Miss, LSU, Tennessee, Missouri, South Carolina and Florida. The Big Ten and the Big 12 each have five. For the Big Ten that is Indiana, Ohio State, UCLA, USC and Iowa. For the Big 12 it is Utah, BYU, Texas Tech, Houston and Arizona. The ACC has two, Miami and Wake Forest. Boise State and New Mexico represent the Mountain West, and Notre Dame is the lone independent.

The LSU Tigers and Tennessee Volunteers both held their spots at 15 and 16.

How the AP Poll Differs From Other Rankings

The AP Top 25 is a poll of media voters, so it reflects how sportswriters and broadcasters see the teams. It is not the same as any committee ranking, and it does not decide who plays for a national title. Use it as a readout of the national conversation. For a look at how a poll from earlier in the year compares, see our Week 5 AP Top 25 breakdown, and for last weekend’s slate see the Week 10 games guide.
