Times are Eastern. Conference games are in bold, including the three the league’s own composite forgets to tag.

How A-10 field hockey works in 2026

Seven Atlantic 10 schools sponsor field hockey: Davidson, La Salle, Lock Haven, Richmond, Saint Joseph’s, Saint Louis and VCU. Everyone plays everyone once, six conference games apiece, 21 in all, from September 18 to October 30.

The geography is the story. Saint Joseph’s and La Salle are both in Philadelphia. Richmond and VCU are both in Richmond, Virginia. Lock Haven sits in central Pennsylvania, Davidson is outside Charlotte, and Saint Louis is nine hundred miles west of everyone. Two pairs of neighbors and three outliers, playing a round robin that ends with both neighbor games on the same day.

Saint Joseph’s is the preseason favorite for reasons that are hard to argue with. The Hawks have won the last five conference titles, eight of the last nine, and have appeared in an A-10-record ten consecutive championship games. They took 44 points and four of the seven first-place votes in the coaches poll. Richmond was second at 42 with one first-place vote, VCU third at 37 with one, Davidson fourth at 30 with one. La Salle (19), Saint Louis (15) and Lock Haven (9) rounded it out.

Saint Joseph’s is also the league’s only nationally ranked team, opening at No. 20. Three Hawks made the preseason all-conference team: Alison Buffington, Erika Culp and Milou Kluyt, the reigning A-10 Defensive Player of the Year and the Most Outstanding Player of last year’s championship.

The A-10 finishes its round robin with La Salle at Saint Joseph’s in Philadelphia and VCU at Richmond in Richmond, two hours apart on the same afternoon, both with tournament seeding attached. No other conference in the sport closes like this.

The games the composite gets wrong

Every Lock Haven road conference game is missing its tag. The composite marks Lock Haven’s three home conference games as conference games and leaves all three road ones unmarked: at VCU on October 9, at Saint Joseph’s on October 16, and at Davidson on October 30. All three count. Without them the league’s round robin comes out to 18 games instead of 21, and Lock Haven appears to be playing three conference games in a seven-team league.

Kent State vs VCU, August 30. The A-10 composite says 1:30 in Chicago. The MAC composite says 2:30 in Evanston. It is the same game, at Northwestern’s field, and the two leagues are an hour apart on it.

La Salle at Penn, September 11. The A-10 composite says 2:00 and lists the site as Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, which is La Salle’s home field. The Ivy League composite says 3:00 in Philadelphia and has Penn as the host. The Ivy version is the one that matches the away-team column.

California at VCU, October 2. The A-10 composite says 3:00. The ACC composite says 6:00.

La Salle at Rutgers, September 27. The A-10 composite says New Brunswick; the Big Ten composite says Piscataway. Rutgers plays field hockey in Piscataway.

Indiana (Pa.) at Lock Haven, September 27. The away-team field renders as a bare string with no logo, which usually means the opponent is not in the system. The game is real; the listing is broken.

A-10 Championship

VCU hosts, at Cary Street Field in Richmond, Virginia.

The composite ends on November 1 and does not carry the championship dates, so confirm those on the conference site before making plans. What is settled is the venue and the stakes: the winner takes the Atlantic 10’s automatic NCAA bid.

Saint Joseph’s has won five straight and ten consecutive trips to the championship game, an A-10 record. Anyone hoping to end that run will most likely have to do it in Richmond, against a Hawks team that has not lost a title game since 2020.

NCAA Tournament

The 2026 field is 18 teams: ten automatic qualifiers, including the A-10 champion, and eight at-large selections.

Opening-round games are November 11, involving the four lowest-seeded automatic qualifiers, which is where an A-10 champion typically lands. First and second rounds are at campus sites on November 13 and 15. The semifinals are November 20 and the championship is November 22, both at Louisville’s Trager Stadium.

Games to circle in 2026

VCU at Richmond, October 30. Two Division I field hockey programs in the same city, playing the last game of the A-10 regular season, with the No. 2 and No. 3 preseason picks and a tournament seed on the line. The tournament itself is at VCU’s field a week later.

La Salle at Saint Joseph’s, October 30. The Philadelphia game, same Friday, same stakes. Saint Joseph’s has not lost an A-10 title game in five years; La Salle would like to be the reason that changes.

Richmond at Saint Joseph’s, September 25. The poll’s top two, two points apart, in Philadelphia in week two of conference play.

Saint Joseph’s at VCU, October 23. A dress rehearsal at Cary Street Field, on the surface that will host the championship.

North Carolina at Saint Joseph’s, October 9. No. 2 in the country at Ellen Ryan Field, one of five ranked opponents on the Hawks’ schedule.

North Carolina at Richmond, September 13. The Spiders host the Tar Heels a week after hosting Duke. Richmond’s nonconference schedule is the most ambitious in the league.

Saint Joseph’s at Princeton, October 25. No. 20 at No. 3, on a Sunday in New Jersey, the Hawks’ last tune-up before championship week.

VCU at Wake Forest and at Duke, September 11 and 13. Two ranked ACC teams in three days for the preseason No. 3.

Davidson at Maine, September 6. Not a marquee game, but a thousand miles each way for a program that also plays at Ohio, at Wake Forest and at Saint Louis. Nobody in this league travels casually.
